*A separate cover charge will be added.600 yen (tax included) ~ What are the Six Ancient Kilns? ~ The Six Ancient Kilns have a history ranging from several hundred years to over a thousand years.These include glazed pottery from Seto, and unglazed stoneware from Echizen, Tokoname, Shigaraki, Tanba, and Bizen.The Middle Ages were a period of gradual transition from the court government of the Heian period to samurai rule, as well as a time when the power of the common people rose to prominence.Therefore, mountain tea bowl kilns were established from Shizuoka Prefecture in the east to Mie Prefecture in the south and as far north as near Takayama City in Gifu Prefecture.One of the major forces in this field is Tokoname ware.Echizen ware was developed in the late 12th century during the late Heian period, heavily influenced by Tokoname ware; Tanba ware in the 13th century during the Kamakura period; and Shigaraki ware in the latter half of the Kamakura period.Bizen ware traces its lineage back to the Sue ware of Oku, which has existed since the 5th century, and moved to Bizen City and its surrounding areas from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period.
